Structherm Fastbuild provides inherent fire resistance onsite

With approximately 60 commercial and public property fires in the UK every day, construction site blazes pose the most serious safety risk and are a significant contributor with around 11 per day.*

Whilst there is always some risk of fire in any building, the level of fire resistance is dependent on the quality of construction and materials used. Precast concrete systems, such as Structherm Fastbuild®, can reduce the risk of fire posed by events such as vandalism on site, give inherent protection compared to other build methods and minimise disruption to the site schedule and to residents in the surrounding area.

So, what fire resistance benefits does Structherm Fastbuild® offer?

  • Additional fire protection is generally not needed as Fastbuild provides inherent fire resistance of up to 1 hour
  • It cannot be 'set on fire' like other materials
  • It does not emit any toxic fumes, produce smoke or drip molten particles when exposed to fire and/or high temperatures
  • There is a decreased likelihood that site neighbours will need evacuating in the event of a fire
  • Fastbuild maintains its strength during a fire and its structural integrity following a fire
  • Its non-combustible nature can help contain a fire, even if no water supply is available
  • The requirement for site security and an onsite fire officer may be reduced
  • Programme times are guaranteed as there is no need to rebuild burnt out sections

In fact, Structherm Fastbuild® can be described as virtually 'fireproof', both during construction and once completed.
