Beechwood School
Background:
Completed in 2007, Beechwood School was part of a £44 million, grouped PFI project which involved three
schools, community facilities and a residential unit for autistic children. The school was designed in partnership between Wates, the school and Slough Borough Council and is an 11,700m
2 new build replacement school on the existing site, providing accommodation for 750 pupils between the ages of 11 and 16 plus 150 Post 16 places.
Solution:
The building was predominantly of masonry/concrete construction, with some areas of steel frame and cement particle sheathing board. Structherm worked closely with the Wates design team to develop the
interface details.
Both masonry/concrete and steel framed sections were insulated with 200mm mineral fibre insulation and required a durable and maintenance free finish to be applied. Structherm’s NSC 2 offered a range of benefits, including a wide choice of finishes, high thermal efficiency and an extremely high degree of impact resistance - all key elements for this type of build.
Results:
The eye catching multi coloured finish was achieved with Structherm’s acrylic Flesscoat Cortina TH Plus Medium product which gave the client a wide variety of coloured and textured finishes to choose from.
The system selected achieved a U-value of 0.17W/m2k and excellent air tightness.
