The Chantry
Everything about The Chantry is impressive, from its prime location off New Dover Road to its landscaped setting and the architectural details and materials that visually link the apartments and houses with the surrounding buildings in the conservation area.
Peace and neighbourliness has been promoted at The Chantry from a combination of smart communal areas, lifts to all floors, car parking and the latest standards in security, heat and sound insulation in which Fastbuild played an integral role.
The challenges
The land had been purchased with planning permission for the 42 one and two bedroom apartments in 2004 after a furniture showroom that was previously on the site burnt down. The site at Dover Road was very tight, made more challenging by the fact that the owners of the adjacent land would not allow jib swing over their airspace. However Structherm were able to overcome this by using combinations of all terrain mobile cranes.
The project, being 5 storeys had to have progressive collapse details designed in. This was no problem for Structherm who had designed many previous projects of this nature. The structural properties of the load bearing concrete panels meant that in the case of a blow-out the floors would stay in place.
Structherm worked in partnership with Saxon to allow the smooth running of the project that was delivered on schedule in 15 weeks. One of the contributing factors for this was lists of deliveries that were given to Saxon from Structherm to ease site planning.

Why we were chosen
Saxon Developments chose Structherm following a recommendation from another residential developer that had used Structherm for a number of previous projects. Having gained a wealth of experience of modern methods of construction from using the Fastbuild system, this developer was able to pass on valuable knowledge to Saxon.
The main benefit brought by the system to Saxon was the speed of construction and the fact that the system isn’t weather dependant, as with traditional methods of construction - all resulting in a quicker turnaround on investment. When Saxon were asked if they would use the system again, they replied “Yes. We were very pleased with the professional service that we received; and getting the apartments on the market quicker than usual obviously has its financial benefits.”
