Blacon

Project Details:Unity Property Before Refurbishment
Built in the 1950’s, these Unity properties were reasonably well maintained both internally and externally, but listed as defective stock under NTHAS.

There is a strong community spirit in the area, some tenants have been in the properties since construction and raised their families in the neighbourhood.

The properties were transferred to Chester & District Housing Group  with the promise of bringing them up to the decent homes standard. This included upgrading the structure of the properties, whilst improving and unifying the external visual appearance.

Solution:
Tenants were involved in the process from the beginning, from choosing consultants and contractors to choosing render colours.

The Structherm cladding system was chosen as it is a cost effective solution with an excellent track record and is able to achieve mortgagability.

Results:Unity Properties After Refurbishment
The U-value of the properties has been improved dramatically from the original value of 1.37 to 0.3w/m2K.

As a direct result of the refurbishment., the tenants have since had the right to buy their homes and Chester & District Housing Group now have improved assets.
