Mastrick Flats

Project Details:Before Refurbishment
Prior to refurbishment, Aberdeen City Council undertook a survey amongst the tenants to establish any issues with the block of flats. Feedback from the tenants highlighted that the balconies of the flats suffered greatly from roosting pigeons, which had made the balconies become virtually off limits. In addition, a priority  was to increase the internal living area of the flats.

Key Requirements:

  • Lightweight cladding system
  • Quick to install to minimise disruption to occupants
  • To provide an appropriate impact-resistance

Solution:
This project used scaffolding cradles on tracks bolted on to the structure, allowing a platform to be moved up to the appropriate place to work, rather than having full scaffolding around the building. This method improves security and safety for both tenants and contractors on site.

The 52 balconies have been enclosed with the insitu double panel system, incorporating new aluminium windows and a dash receiver finish. After Refurbishment Following refurbishment, the internal living area has increased by approximately 8m2
