Structherm have released a new case study detailing their work on Phase 1 of the Wrexham Airey project.
The project covered the refurbishment of 75 Airey properties for Wrexham County Borough Council. Installed by Westdale Services, the project was Highly Commended for Low Rise Refurbishment Award in the 2018 Insulated Render and Cladding Association (INCA) Awards.
Airey houses were only designed to have a lifespan of maximum twenty years so consequently many of them have exceeded this expectation. Airey properties were built with a reinforced concrete frame, with concrete panels tied back to the columns. The home were designated ”defective” by the Building Research Establishment (BRE) in 1985 due to the risk of corrosion in the concrete structure.
This project really shows the capabilities and versatility of the Structherm system. Working with the client and contractor, both render and ArtBrick finishes were used to modernise the look of these 20th Century homes, all while the structural system helped to stabilise these Airey homes.
The case study is available now, and covers the initial problems faced, our technical team’s design solution, and the results of the refurbishment. You can read and download it here.
