Following their work on Shieldhill with Ailsa Building Contractors Ltd., Structherm have released a new case study detailing how their structural EWI system can benefit timber frame homes. The case study covers the refurbishment of 38 Weir Timber homes for Falkirk Council.

Weir timber homes were built with a frame made entirely of timber due to a steel shortage following World War II. The Building Research Establishment (BRE) report for this type of property highlights the possibility of localised decay of the timber frame panels.

Working with the client and installer, the system was designed to reposition gas meters, which reduced cold bridging in the homes.

The case study is available now, and covers the initial problems faced, our technical team’s design solution, and the results of the refurbishment. You can read and download it here.
