Structherm Win At 2015 INCA Awards

Structherm projects, Craghead Low Rise and Worcester High Rise, have both won at the 2015 INCA (Insulated Render and Cladding Association) Awards within the Domestic Refurbishment – Low Rise 6+ category and Domestic Refurbishment – High Rise category. The INCA Awards celebrate excellence in the field of external wall insulation, for both refurbishment and new build projects.

Awarding excellence within the sector

Together with Westdale Services and Volkerlaser, Structherm beat off a record number of entries to be presented with the two awards at the lavish 8 Northumberland Avenue in central London. The longstanding INCA Awards demonstrate the vital role for EWI in improving the energy efficiency of buildings, lifting households out of fuel poverty and transforming local communities

The judging panel, consisted of industry experts from AgilityECO, BBA, CITB, CoRE, DECC, Double Glazing Grants, and EAE.

Providing energy savings and aesthetic improvements

Domestic Refurbishment – Low Rise 6+

External Wall Insulation was installed on all 150 solid wall properties in the mining village of Craghead in County Durham, approximately 90% of the housing stock, in a truly community-wide approach. The specified finish was a ‘new brick’ effect whilst still retaining the original features and character of the properties.

As a result of the External Wall Insulation works, the previously run-down and dilapidated appearance of the village has been dramatically transformed and average property values have more than tripled. Residents now have warm, energy efficient homes and a new found pride in their village.

Domestic Refurbishment – High Rise

The installation of Structural External Wall Insulation on the three 12-storey blocks of flats making up Worcester High Rise greatly improved their thermal performance and appearance and saved them from being demolished. Each of the 244 flats now saves around £145 per year in fuel and 610kg in carbon dioxide emissions.

Home to social tenants, operatives had to be very sensitive to the requirements of local residents during the works, who were still inhabiting the properties over the course of the project.

With the Structural External Wall Insulation system, VolkerLaser were able to revamp the iconic high-rise buildings to give them a clean, modern look in keeping with Worcester’s skyline. New windows and lifts were also delivered as well as a new roof-level common room on the highest floor in Cripplegate House; the Sky Lounge, offering what has been described as “the best view in Worcester”. Thermal performance has improved greatly with the U value of the walls dropping from 1.82W/m2K to 0.30W/m2K.
